12 months.
I realized that I never did an actual 12 month post for Ethan, so here it is!
Gracie was in Virginia with Sean's mom the week of Ethan's check-up, which worked out well since Ethan had to have 4 shots and a finger prick. Sean was able to go with me, which is always nice, especially when the kids have to get shots. Ethan was pretty angry while they tried to get enough blood from his finger prick, and he hated having the band-aid on his finger afterwards! He was as upset as I've ever seen him while getting his shots, but once I was able to scoop him up, he calmed down.
Overall, he is a healthy little boy! He weighed in at 19 pounds, 10 ounces (7th percentile). The doctor wasn't concerned with his weight, but wants me to push a high fat diet. We've since made a relatively smooth transition to whole milk, which should help with that effort. Ethan still nurses 2-3 times a day, but I imagine I'll wean him completely within the next couple of months. It's a bittersweet thought.
On July 4th, Ethan took 8 steps, which was the most he'd ever taken at one time. He then took 10 steps on July 6th. Sean and I noticed that he seemed to really want to walk and would almost always choose to walk first, then crawl if he lost his balance. He can now easily make his way across the room. He is still a little wobbly, but seems comfortable with his new skill! It's hard for me to believe that my "baby" is a walker now, but I'm excited about the new things he'll be able to experience now that he is walking.
Ethan still does a really good job with repeating words and sounds. He can clearly say duck, quack-quack, DaDa, MaMa, cracker. He also says "nigh-nigh" and will say "bye" on occasion. He loves to wave and clap. He recently started blowing kisses, which has to be one of the most adorable things ever.
We are still working on getting him to sleep through the night. He is a challenge where sleep is concerned, although I think we're making progress! He's been "crying it out" (again) during naps and when he wakes at night (as long as I'm certain he doesn't need anything). He's had a few really good nights and no longer wakes before 3am, so yes, this is progress. :)
More facts about my one year old:
-Ethan hates having his diaper changed and is so strong! I seriously get a work-out during most changes. He also dislikes being in his car seat and will fight us using all of his strength as we're trying to buckle him in.
-In addition to his first bottom tooth that's already completely in, he is now getting his first top tooth and his second bottom tooth at the same time. Both have broken through at this point.
-He is a good eater, most of the time. He enjoys crackers and cheerios, peas and carrots, peaches, strawberries, grapes (cut into small pieces), cheese... He eats most of what I give him, although he doesn't seem to like meat all that much yet.
-Ethan is a fun little boy! I love spending time one on one with him when we get the chance, but it's also lots of fun to watch him play with Gracie. She tackles him constantly, then when I tell her to stop, she tells me she loves him so much, she just can't stop hugging him! She really is a wonderful big sister and I can only imagine how entertaining these two will be as they grow up...
This year certainly flew by. I just cannot thank God enough for both Ethan and Gracie, their health, and all the happiness they bring to our family!

I think our two little boys are so very, very similar (except for the weight - C's on the opposite end of that spectrum); you didn't mention how tall Ethan is. He looks like he's very long and lean!
ReplyDelete(PS - love the pic of him in Gracie's fairy wings... you'll have to save that for blackmail one day!)
Elizabeth, I don't think the nurse actually told me his length, and it's not recorded on his print out from the visit, but I do remember the doctor mentioning he was around the 60th percentile for length. I'll have to make a point to ask at his 15 month check-up!
DeleteHaha, I love the fairy wings photo! Those two are going to have such an adventure together in the years to come. It sounds like Ethan is trucking right along (and growing way too fast), and is doing wonderfully - right where he needs to be at this age! We sure love the little guy!
