The Greatest Rescue.

I love the way that God works in our lives. Sometimes, it's obvious. Sometimes, it's more subtle. But when I look back over my life, I see countless examples where God was moving ahead of me, preparing the way, preparing my heart for where I am today.

I really wanted to be a choir assistant when I enrolled Gracie in the 4-year-old choir this past fall... I was always involved in our youth choir as a little girl, and then sang in the praise band and adult choir as a teenager. I have fond memories of this time in my life. Anyway, I didn't ask about being a choir assistant because the nice group of folks I saw those first Sunday evenings looked like they had it under control. I had this internal dialogue going with myself. Just ask. I didn't.

I had decided I would ask next fall and was content to attend the Sunday evening services that are held during the youth choir practices. But then I received an email. Gracie's choir group was in need of another helper and the choir director was reaching out to the parents. The door was wide open. I responded immediately.

As we prepare for our performance night, I find myself so thankful for the opportunity to spend time with these children each week, while also using my talents to serve our God. I'm not claiming to be a gifted singer, but I can basically carry a tune, and more importantly, I love children. And I adore hearing children sing songs of praise to Jesus.

Our theme this year is "The Greatest Rescue". As you may have guessed, our great rescuer is Jesus, who saved each of us when He endured an unimaginable death on a cross. Our sins have been forgiven and we have access to our Savior through prayer, worship, and praise. What a beautiful gift.

There's also been lots of talk of God's rescue team, many of whom serve our community by committing to keep its people safe. Since my good friend is a fire fighter, he was able to help us out with this special treat for the kids this past Sunday night.

As we prepare for Easter, my hope is that you will take some time to consider the greatest rescue, what it meant then, what it means for us day to day, and most importantly, what it means for life beyond our earthly years.
