Dance Recital and Awards Night 2013
One of the events I've most looked forward to over the past two years has been Gracie's dance recital. She spends an hour per week with a small group of girls and an instructor, learning, practicing, and preparing two dances -one tap, one ballet- to perform at the recital. Along the way, there is the exciting discovery of which costume her class will wear, picture day, and an evening of dress rehearsal. All of this leads up to an impressive show put on by the dancers of ExtravaDance and Tumble, Gracie's dance studio.
I love dressing my girl up and making a big deal of the pre-recital preparations. This year, Gracie was anxious. She looked so beautiful, and I knew she would do a wonderful job on stage, but had I given her the option, I'm fairly certain she would have abandoned her spot in front of the crowd and happily sat with her family in the audience.
She could have thrown a fit, refused to dance, cried her way out of performing, but despite her nerves, she danced anyway. And I was so proud.
On our way to the car after the recital, Gracie announced that she was quitting dance, although she would attend Awards Night. We assured her that we weren't going to force her into anything, but that we were very proud of her for making it through the recital. As her mother, I think she could have a bright future as a dancer, but only time will tell if she chooses to continue. I'm willing to give her the opportunity to try anything she wants, if it means she finds something she's passionate about. Discovering her talents and interests will be an exciting and beautiful thing as she grows up.
Awards Night, the following week, was relaxed and fun, no pressure or nerves. Each child was called to take a short trip down a very glamorous red carpet and receive their trophy for a job well done.
Congratulations, Gracie, on another fantastic performance and dance year! We love you so much and we're so proud of you!

I love these photos, probably some of the most precious family ones in recent months! Gracie was adorable in her outfit. And that trophy is so cool, I bet she felt really proud of herself!
