My Baby is Four.

Four years ago, I gave birth to a baby boy. There are moments from his birth-day that will forever be tiny treasures in my chest of memories. I will never forget the way my precious 3-year-old looked when she was sent in to meet her brother for the first time. I will never forget the moment that we sat together on that hospital bed as a family of four for the first time. I will never forget my husband holding our son for the first time.

I could never have known, never have predicted, what my life would be like as a mother to both a daughter and a son. The shift from parenting one child to two has certainly not always been easy. Every stage and age presents new challenges and new reliefs, but the whole journey has been more beautiful and more joy-filled and more chaotic than I could have imagined, and I love it. It's the best of both worlds, a true adventure from day to day. My children are little opposites and watching them grow over these past years has been so interesting and fun.

Ethan,

Today is your day. Today, we celebrate you and that indescribable moment where mother and father met baby. It was on this day that our world became sweeter and our hearts more full. These past 4 years have been a whirlwind, it's true, yet I still remember kissing your newborn nose, squeezing those chubby 1-year-old thighs, feeling the arms of my 2-year-old around my neck, dancing and running and laughing alongside my 3-year-old... And now I am so thankful that I get to watch you turn 4-years-old. I am excited about what new experiences this coming year will bring.

You are full of energy and a real go, go, go kind of guy. I love that you enjoy playing independently; there is something so precious about listening to you create little worlds of your own using your vivid imagination. Currently, you are very much into building with Lego sets. I'm always impressed to see what you'll come up with. You also love Transformers and all Super Heroes (Iron Man, Superman, Hulk, Thor, etc.).

You have a spunky personality. I see some of the same traits in you that your daddy has... You share your opinion with us, you are quite stubborn at times, and you need both food and lots of rest if we want you to be happy! You look a lot like you daddy, too.

We are so proud of you, sweet boy. My prayer for you is that you will continue to grow strong and healthy. I pray you will always remember what you once told me, that God is even stronger than the Hulk. :) He loves you and He has big plans for you.

Happy 4th Birthday.

Love, Mommy
