I Wonder...
With each passing week, I find myself wondering what it will be like this time...
Part of me feels so prepared for what's to come, but there is a part of me that knows every birth is different. I still remember Gracie's birth like it was yesterday. I've never been so excited to be in so much pain.
With Gracie, consistent contractions started around 5:00 am, my water broke at 7:12 am (I remember this to the minute because Sean was literally walking out of the door to head to work when it happened!), and after calling and chatting with a nurse, we were on our way to the doctor's office to confirm that my water had indeed broken by 8:00 am. By noon, I was 10cm dilated.
I pushed for two hours before finally bringing Gracie into the world. As she began her entrance, we were surprised and delighted to find that she had a head of dark hair. I wonder...
I'm not really feeling nervous about childbirth this time. I wonder if this will change as we get closer to the due date. I plan to go into it without any expectations. Maybe I'll have the epidural, maybe not. Maybe I'll progress quickly as I did with Gracie, maybe not. Maybe Ethan will decide to come a few days before he's due like his sister, maybe not. I am hoping and praying for the kind of labor and delivery I experienced with Gracie. I did have a heavenly epidural and the hardest (and most exhausting) part of it all was the 2-hour pushing. Either way, I am so excited for that unpredictable day, the one that will bring me face to face with Ethan Reid.
I'm now 34 weeks pregnant and I am so thankful that we get to do this again.
We're counting down the days, sweet boy! Only 40 to go... There are many arms anxious to hold you, especially your mommy's.

She was such a cute baby! And how interesting that her hair fell out and came back blonde!
ReplyDeleteI bet your labor will be faster this time -- from start to finish, mine was WAY shorter (yet still significantly longer than yours... I hope you realize how lucky you were!!!). And pushing was much shorter too, although it still felt long!
ReplyDeleteOh I missed this post. It's beautiful!
