Mary and her little lamb.
Gracie's Nursery Rhyme party was this past Friday at preschool. The kids have been learning nursery rhymes and making related crafts for the past couple weeks. I've enjoyed hearing Gracie recite many of my favorite nursery rhymes and am impressed with how many she now knows! The children were allowed to dress up for the party as any nursery rhyme character. We went back and forth between the cat with the fiddle in Hey Diddle Diddle or Mary, from Mary had a Little Lamb. In the end, Gracie chose to dress up as Mary and let her little lamb follow her along to school. :)

I signed up to be a mommy helper and had a fantastic time leading a Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star craft and providing star cookies for the class. It was so neat to finally have an inside look into Gracie's day and I enjoyed meeting many of the little friends she talks about at home. All of the children were so sweet and well behaved during the crafts, game, and snack time. I was impressed! The highlight of my afternoon came towards the end of the school day. The teacher asked a few of the children to stand and recite the nursery rhyme they had chosen their costume idea from. Gracie stood up in front of the class and sang Mary had a Little Lamb. She swayed back and forth as she sang. I literally had to fight back tears. It was incredibly sweet and I was one proud momma! I think she enjoyed having me be a part of her class as much as I loved being there. I'm already looking forward to helping with their Valentine's Day party in a few months!

HOw funny, I signed up to be a room mom too - specifically so I could see G in action in her classroom! Love the party theme, what creative teachers!
ReplyDeleteI hope to be able to get an "inside" look myself into my son's preschool soon, too. Cute cookies, and I bet it was hard to hold back those tears watching sweet Gracie sing!
