9 Months.

After Ethan's nap one day this week, I opened the blinds and discovered a lovely afternoon light filling his room. I went for my camera, hoping to sit back and practice with a few settings while watching him play happily. In doing so, I also discovered that A) my hope chest, which was both built and hand painted by my grandfather, makes an incredible background and B) capturing my baby's smile brings me great happiness.
I've looked at this picture 100 times and his smile makes me smile every time.

Ethan is 9 months old today. I'm celebrating yet another month that went too quickly, but also a blessed month that has brought an immeasurable amount of joy. If I could slow down time, I would, but since I can't, I'll just enjoy each God given second with this little boy, one of two insanely bright lights in my life.

Ethan, you are very mobile now. You love to crawl and you're getting increasingly comfortable with pulling up to your knees anywhere possible... the hope chest, the wall, the changing table, your crib, the baby gate... This excitement over being able to get where you want to go now has also lead to your first bumps and bruises. Two bruises to be exact, one on top of the other, right on the side of your forehead. You handled these minor injuries well and were over them before I could even get out an ice pack. I wonder if this is one of the many differences between girls and boys? You're tough and too busy getting into trouble to stop when Mommy overreacts. :) If you pulled up to stand and started cruising today, it wouldn't surprise me. You seem to want to do it, so I think it will happen sooner rather than later.

One other fact about you right now? You make diaper changes and getting dressed or undressed a challenge. You're just not interested in staying still long enough for such things. I try to sing, make funny noises, hand you my phone, anything to give myself a few easy seconds. It can honestly be a mini workout just to get you ready in the mornings. You're also strong, impressively so for someone so small!

A few more things about you:
-You love to mimic sounds, the latest being "Dada".
-You are still toothless! You chew on anything you can get your hands on, including your hands, actually.
-You are attached to your lovey, Lionel the Lion. You chew on one corner of him, the corner with the tag, and he's gross and stinky, but you need him to settle for naps and bedtime. You love to snuggle him against your face.

As I've said before, I just love everything about this stage you're in. It is so much fun watching you learn and observe the world around you. You're this happy little bundle of smiles and giggles and I can't even express how thankful I am that you're mine!

Happy 9 Month Birthday, my boy.

  2. Wow, that does make an *excellent* background and prop!!!

He is such a great little guy. My son was a mover too and made changing a challenge. I hope my daughter is a bit more calm ;-)

  3. Happy 9 Month birthday, little man! I can't believe you are just starting to crawl and may already be on the way to cruising! Slow down a little ok? ;-) And try to let your Mommy change your diaper a little easier too please.

Love the photos, as always! He's so precious.

My son never cared about the bumps and bruises either (unless it's a really bad one), so maybe it is a boy thing.

  5. How did I miss these pictures? He sounds just like Charlie, too busy (and too strong) for me to change his diaper! Did you ever see that clip from "Up All Night" (With Christina Applegate) on NBC, where they're trying to change their baby's diaper and saying, "we're trying to help you!"??? I think of that every time I struggle to change him!

I agree with Megan, it sounds like a boy thing with the bumps and bruises. Same story, different house :)
