My Baby is Two!

My sweet boy turned two years old on Sunday! We've been so busy over the past few weeks, so I'm just now getting a chance to sit, reflect, and write about Ethan at this precious age.

Today, while leading the art center during Vacation Bible School at church, I was telling my group of five-year-old kids that my “baby” just turned two. One little boy spoke up and informed me that Ethan is actually a “toddler” now… On one hand, this little boy is correct; I no longer have a completely helpless baby. On the other hand, however, he’s not yet capable of understanding that no matter how big my babies get, they will always be just that... my babies. Still, it is difficult to believe that two years have passed so quickly.

Ethan Reid,

Happy 2nd Birthday, my little love. You are an incredibly fun, easy-going little boy.You truly are so sweet and affectionate. I adore when you run over to me, arms reaching up, and say, “Hold you!” I’m so thankful that you still enjoy being rocked and occasionally fall asleep in my arms. I can hold you for hours and never get tired of staring at your precious features, especially those long eyelashes and pouty lips.

You are a lover of any type of car, but you adore Lightening McQueen and the rest of the gang from the movie Cars. You could happily spend an hour with nothing but our coffee table and a few cars. You also love trains, plains, helicopters, motorcycles, construction vehicles, and pretty much anything else that has wheels.

You love, love, love being outside. You enjoy exploring on your own, jumping in puddles, playing with your water table, running in the yard with Gracie… You also occasionally take your cars outside and drive them around our circular patio table. I’d say, on most days, that you’re pretty easy to entertain.

I love hearing you talk! You’re doing a very good job of putting short sentences and phrases together. I hear "no way" quite frequently. Our only obstacle where this is concerned is that you are still very attached to your pacifier. While you talk impressively well with it hanging out of your mouth, I’m certain you’d speak even more clearly with it out of your mouth completely. I've been counting down the months, waiting for you to officially turn two before beginning the process of weaning you from your “pass”, but it’s so much easier said than done! You're also quite attached to your Lion blanket. If you ask for your pacifier, you'll be requesting Lion within the next breath; they are your comfort team.

I'm so proud of you, Ethan. And I'm so, so thankful that God chose me to be your mommy! You are my boy and I adore you! I'm so grateful for your first two years and all of the beautiful memories we've made and the moments we've shared.

  1. Happy 2nd birthday to such a sweet, special little boy. He's such a blessing and I am so honored to have the priviledge of knowing him. Wow, I remember very well holding him in my arms the day he was born, and I just cannot believe that it's been (more than) two years already. Love you, Ethan!
