3 Months Old.

Gosh, these monthly posts come quickly! My little man turned three months old yesterday. He got to spend this "birthday" at the beach, his very first trip. He spent the majority of our beach time asleep in my arms. It was hot, but he and I stayed shaded under an umbrella and enjoyed a nice breeze. I'm glad we were able to take him out, but I think we all preferred the pool over the sand this year. Even Gracie seemed like less of a sand fan, and she was all about the beach the past two years!


Ethan, you are such a happy boy! I am so in love with your smiles. You are such a little "talker" and your whole face just seems to light up when you smile. Recently, I was doing laundry while Gracie laid with you on your play mat... I peeked in the room and found Gracie talking to you, telling you that she loves you sooo much. You responded by grinning and cooing at her. She really does adore you. She will even pop out of a really bad mood to tell you hello and plant kisses on your forehead. She has started calling you "Brothery", her own special nickname for you. Sometimes it sounds more like "Buttery", so Daddy and I have gotten in the habit of calling you this, our Buttery Boy, in addition to all of your other silly nicknames! Here is more about you at three months...

-You are sleeping in longer stretches at night! You are typically ready for bed around 8pm. You usually get up once between 1-2am, then again around 4-5am. You sleep best when you are swaddled. Sometimes you fight the process, but once I've swaddled you, you give in to sleep.

-You still dislike tummy time. Even so, you are holding up that head and enjoy looking all around. You like to be a part of whatever everyone else is doing!

-You like to stay busy. You are not content to sit and do the same thing for very long. I find myself moving you around constantly to keep you happy. :)

-I can't believe how much you have grown... You have these adorable chunky thighs and these sweet, chubby cheeks that I love to kiss. You're wearing 3-6 month clothes now. There are outfits that I didn't think you would wear until November, but some of them already fit! The pile of newborn clothes folded and ready to put away make me a little sad, but knowing that you're growing and doing so well makes me really happy. :) Of course, I try to remind you that there's no hurry and you can grow as slowly as you like...

-You're my sweet boy and I love you so.

    Ethan is so cute! A birthday at the beach sounds perfect. Kyton is 3 months today and wears 9 month and even a few 12 month clothes. I'm a little jealous that Ethan still fits into 3 month clothing. They grow too quickly! Happy 3 months Ethan!

    Oh, Kyton hates tummy time too, glad to hear that I'm not alone that that. I feel bad for making him do it.

    Don't fear, Carly and Christina! My little C is just starting to get used to tummy time at 4+ months; at 3 months he still HATED it! Ethan is sooooo adorable, he reminds me so much of Gracie at that age!

The end is near.

My husband is confident. He's determined, speaks his mind, and lives for a challenge. If you tell him something cannot be done, be prepared to be proven wrong. I rarely see him get nervous, for any reason... almost. My 38-week appointment was this morning. As usual, Sean and Gracie were with me, which I love. I was anxious to get to this appointment because I started having uncomfortable cramping yesterday evening, which then lasted through the night and even into the morning. I've experienced a few other "preliminary signs" of labor which have led me to believe that we're coming up on the end here. After talking with the doctor, he offered to check my progress and strip my membranes. This is when I got a little tickled, even as I was sitting on an exam table naked from the waist down, with nothing but a paper sheet wrapped around me. Hilton Head.

I was feeling heavy. Overwhelmed. Tired. The combination of sick children, sleep deprivation, and very little "me" time was starting to push me down a bit. I don't like feeling that way. I want to wake up with a smile on my face. I want to feel motivated and light . Our Hilton Head vacation arrived at the perfect time. Packing was a nightmare, but once our car hit the highway, I felt it... Freedom . It didn't matter that I was taking a sick child along, or that I was still going to be sleep deprived. Those things are easier to handle when you get a change in scenery, especially when that scenery becomes blue skies and an endless ocean. As we do each year in January, we joined Sean's dad and step-mom for a winter get-away. The weather was kind to us this year. Gracie loves the beach.
