First Food.

After spending a couple of hours in the kitchen last week making my first batch of Ethan's baby food - pears, sweet potatoes, and bananas - I decided that we were ready to step slowly into the world of solid foods. I froze everything except for the bananas. Easy to digest, nutritious, low allergy risk... Bananas seemed like a good first food for my boy (plus I hadn't thought about how they would darken and wanted to go ahead and use them). I made sure we had all of the necessary items ready...

Bib... check.
Pureed Yumminess... check.
Happy Baby... check.
Dad with Video Camera, Mom with Camera... check, check.
Excited Big Sister... check!

Ethan loved his first few bites of food! He had that little mouth ready and gobbled every bit up (about a tablespoon). Over the Thanksgiving weekend, he tried his sweet potatoes for the first time and seemed to love those as well. He's since tried rice cereal and will be eating the pears I froze next.

Gracie loved being able to help feed her brother! She has been such a great helper and her excitement rubs off on all of us. Ethan's first meal was a big success. :)

  1. Have you tried any of the food you made for him? My guilty pleasure is cleaning C's bowl when he's full; it is sooooo good, especially when you start mixing foods like bananas and berries, sweet potatoes and butternut squash. DH & I call them "smoothie starters." Oh, and you definitely can freeze bananas (I have a few cubes in my freezer right now) if you ever feel the want/need!

  2. I'm so glad that he's loving his new adventure into "solid" foods so far! How wonderful of Gracie to be a helpful big sister, too! I am sure it's quite the adventure for her to watch as well.

  3. Glad it went well. We are going to try it in a few weeks.
