My Baby is One.
My Ethan, my baby. I have been living in quiet denial for the past few weeks, convinced that avoiding eye contact with reality would be helpful somehow. Instead, I look up today to find you've turned a year old anyway, and while I am always saddened by how quickly time moves forward, I am so happy. What a blessing it has been, my sweet baby, to watch you grow over these past 365 days. I'm so thankful I held you every chance I got, neglecting each meaningless chore in the process. I'm so thankful I knew your first year would fly by, so that I was able to soak in all your sweetness as I watched the months come and go...
This journey, your first year, has been such an amazing one for our family. We've evolved and grown in the very best ways. Seeing your first smile, watching you learn to roll over and crawl, and now cheering you on as you consider taking those first steps; all have brought great joy to each of us. Your sister is undoubtedly one of your biggest fans and watching you two together has been a dream come true for me.

This moment is one I will never forget. Sister meets Brother.

I've learned, yet again, that tiny feet grow quickly.
Where once I cradled a helpless, curled up newborn, I now hold a sturdy, long limbed baby boy. The time that's passed, bringing me from one to the other, holds more joy than can be expressed. I love you, I love you, I love you. Happy First Birthday to the most beautiful boy I've ever known.

As with any life changing experience, there have been many learning opportunities since your birth. Aside from the discovery that baby boys really are much different (easier?) than little girls, I've learned there is no limit to how much a mother can love. I've also learned that watching a father with his newborn takes one of the top spots as one of life's most beautiful things.

Here's a quick video from last week that you'll need to turn up your volume for. He loves sneaking into Gracie's room, but she usually prefers that he stay out. He makes me laugh. :)

Oh my goodness, how cute is that video??? Love his head-shaking denial and his hasty exit :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I have to strongly disagree with the baby boys being easier than baby girls comment... of my two, Charlie has been a FAR harder baby (then again, Gigi was ridiculously easy... I *knew* no baby could be as easy as she was, and that #2 would give me a run for my money no matter what).
Can't wait to see a post on Gracie's dance recital - I hope her experience (and your proud mommy moment) was amazing!
Happy First Birthday, Ethan! I remember holding you the day you were born, as if it was just yesterday. I cannot believe a year has already passed by. You are too cute for words! We all love you so much!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Ethan!! That little video was adorable! :)
