Williamsburg Weekend. Part 1.

We arrived home yesterday after a truly wonderful weekend away visiting with family. We stayed with Sean's grandparents at their condo located near Williamsburg, Virginia (one of our favorite places!). Sean's grandmother cooked us delicious meals and his grandfather treated us to trips out on their boat. Saturday was spent at Busch Gardens with Ryan and Bekah. We were literally there for more than 12 hours, basically open to close. It was so much fun! Sean's mom even joined us for part of the day, then took Gracie and Ethan back to the condo to rest before bringing them back again for fireworks Saturday night. I'll have to break this trip up into a couple of posts!

We left Friday afternoon, which meant we arrived Friday evening in time for dinner and a boat ride. This was Ethan's first time on a boat, the same boat that his daddy enjoyed riding during his childhood. I found this picture of Sean at 18 months old fishing off the boat! It was taken in August of 1985, so 27 years ago!


And here is Ethan at 14 months, driving the boat with his Great-Grandaddy, August 2012.


He wasn't a huge fan of his life jacket at first, but seemed to forget about it once we got started.


Gracie also enjoyed our boat ride, although she's an old pro now. ;) Great-Grandaddy even let go of the wheel so she could drive on her own for a little bit. At one point she informed him that she had it under control! :)





I love this picture of Ethan and Memaw together. Apparently, he's the only baby who has enjoyed going up through the hatch to the bow of the boat!

I could tell Sean really enjoyed sharing this experience with Gracie and Ethan. He absolutely loves being out on the water, and doesn't really realize how much until we're out there. This was a fantastic start to our weekend!

    When you compare the pix of Sean and Ethan on the boat, you can tell who Ethan's daddy is and it does appear that he is going to enjoy the water and boat riding as much as his daddy did!

    I love the comparison of Sean's photo to Ethan's...so special to have that to look back on! What a fun time on the boat!

The end is near.

My husband is confident. He's determined, speaks his mind, and lives for a challenge. If you tell him something cannot be done, be prepared to be proven wrong. I rarely see him get nervous, for any reason... almost. My 38-week appointment was this morning. As usual, Sean and Gracie were with me, which I love. I was anxious to get to this appointment because I started having uncomfortable cramping yesterday evening, which then lasted through the night and even into the morning. I've experienced a few other "preliminary signs" of labor which have led me to believe that we're coming up on the end here. After talking with the doctor, he offered to check my progress and strip my membranes. This is when I got a little tickled, even as I was sitting on an exam table naked from the waist down, with nothing but a paper sheet wrapped around me. Hilton Head.

I was feeling heavy. Overwhelmed. Tired. The combination of sick children, sleep deprivation, and very little "me" time was starting to push me down a bit. I don't like feeling that way. I want to wake up with a smile on my face. I want to feel motivated and light . Our Hilton Head vacation arrived at the perfect time. Packing was a nightmare, but once our car hit the highway, I felt it... Freedom . It didn't matter that I was taking a sick child along, or that I was still going to be sleep deprived. Those things are easier to handle when you get a change in scenery, especially when that scenery becomes blue skies and an endless ocean. As we do each year in January, we joined Sean's dad and step-mom for a winter get-away. The weather was kind to us this year. Gracie loves the beach.
