Williamsburg Weekend. Part 2.

As I mentioned in my Part 1 post, we spent Saturday at Busch Gardens. We've been many times, and even enjoyed a day at this theme park when we were on our honeymoon in Williamsburg 6 years ago! Back then, we bypassed Sesame Place, but it was our first stop this time. :) This was Ethan's very first trip to Busch Gardens, and since he is old enough to enjoy some of the children's rides and is a very curious 14 month old, we knew it was going to be a lot of fun for everyone.

And it was... until Gracie slipped and fell while waiting in line for our first ride of the morning and got a nice cut on her elbow that required the attention of someone from the First Aid team. Luckily, the kind gentleman who helped her was a great distraction, because she was flipping out. He sent her off with a yellow crayon band-aid, mostly back to normal. She eventually forgot about her boo-boo completely and we were able to get back to having fun, starting with a show featuring our Sesame Street friends!

The look on Ethan's face is hilarious to me. He seriously had an expression that was a mix between confusion and curiosity, with a little "what-the-heck" thrown in.

After the show, we were able to have pictures taken with the characters. Gracie was most interested in having her picture taken with Abby Cadabby. Her favorite colors are pink and purple, and she's all about anything related to fairies and magic!

Ethan was not interested in getting too close to the characters at all! Bekah walked him over to see Grover so I could try to take a few pictures. I ended up going over to them and squeezing Grover's nose, which Ethan found hilarious. Still, he was very wary of these big, furry, moving creatures.

This was one of our favorite rides in Sesame Place. After fireworks Saturday night, Gracie and I rode it twice together since there was no line. She literally curled up in my arms and closed her eyes. It was a relaxing way to end the day.

I think it's safe to say that the carousel was Ethan's favorite ride. He loved it so much that he cried when his turn was over... SO, Memaw took him on it again and again. He was even impatient while waiting for the ride to begin, but once it started, he was all smiles!

While Ethan took multiple rides on the carousel, Gracie had her face painted. She chose to become a glittery zebra. :)

Sean, Gracie, Ryan, and Bekah also enjoyed the bumper cars. It was fun watching Gracie and Sean try to chase down the other two!

Memaw ended up taking Gracie and Ethan back to the condo for a few hours so they could rest. While they napped/rested, Sean and I, along with Ryan and Bekah, enjoyed riding the roller coasters. Sean loves roller coasters, so it was a fun way to spend time together as a couple. I screamed a lot... I closed my eyes a lot... I did not throw my hands up in the air... but it was SO much fun! It was also nice to spend time with Ryan and Bekah!

After dinner, Memaw brought our kiddos back so they could enjoy one of my favorite shows in the Ireland section of Busch Gardens, Celtic Fyre. It's an Irish show with traditional Irish dancing and singing. Love it! Neat little side note: Bekah was a competitive Irish dancer until a knee injury set her back a year or so ago. She's shown us a few moves and she's fantastic! I'm still holding out hope that she can overcome the knee injury and dance again. :)

Other highlights/memories:

-We ate lunch while watching the show Entwined, a live musical all about fairy tales. Gracie was totally mesmerized.

-Sean and I rode the new roller coaster, Verbolten, for the first time. It was awesomely terrifying. They laughed at me because I had this one really long scream... but it was actually a very scream-worthy moment!

-While waiting in line to ride one of the coasters, the group ahead of us got stuck at the top... right before the first big drop. We eventually watched as they had to exit on foot from one of the HIGHEST points of the darn thing! I think I would have hyperventilated or passed out, so I'm very thankful we didn't make it to the line a second sooner than we did, or it could have been us.

One more post to come... Gracie's first time fishing!

  1. What an awesome day full of lots of fun! I love how you had to honk Grover's nose, and Ethan's expression watching that show is priceless! I also thought the photo of that plastic trace pattern plastered against Gracie's face to get "zebra"d was hilarious. Of course it's ok you screamed on the coasters! Meeee too. I would have freaked out if I had gotten stuck up at the top, too. So glad you didn't! I hope Bekah can compete again, or at least teach you and I some moves sometime...that would be fun! The photo of Gracie hating the water "attacking" her on that ride you took with her later in the evening, is also so funny!
